Join the YCL Walking Club as we get moving around town.  On Friday, January 3, we will meet at the main entrance of the Main Library (Rock Hill) location.  We have an important task related to York County Reads to perform on our walk that morning.  On Friday, January 17, we will walk at the Galleria Mall.  Meet in the Food Court at 9:00.  Walk off some of those holiday treats and have some fun!  For more information, call 803-981-5825.

York County Reads: An Author Visit with Monica Wood - Rock Hill

York County Library proudly presents an afternoon author visit with Monica Wood. This special event will include a presentation, question and answer session, and book signing for her book, The One In a Million Boy. Due to the tremendous popularity of this author, registration is required. Group registration is not available. Registration for the event will open on Monday, January 13, at 9:00 am. Attendance is limited to 100 participants. 

Monica Wood is a novelist, memoirist, and playwright. Her most recent novel, The One in a Million Boy, has been published in 22 languages in 30 countries and won a 2017 Nautilus Award (Gold) and the New England Society Book award. She is also the author of When We Were the Kennedys. Monica was born in Maine, New England to an Irish Catholic family. She worked as a guidance counselor and in a nursing home before becoming a full-time writer. Monica is an accomplished singer and has traveled the New England circuit singing jazz, country, pop and gospel for many years.

Gordon Korman has been writing over three-quarters of his life. He lives on Long Island with his wife and family.

York County Reads: Let's Take a Walk with Ruby Bridges

Learn about Ruby's courageous moment as the first African American child to integrate into an all-white elementary school from storyteller, Carlo Dawson.  Attendees will get to go on the long walk with Ruby and color changemaker pages while decorating signs to inspire them to use their own voice for change.  Carlo's books will also be available to purchase.  Ages 11 and under, accompanied by an adult.
